Meet the Author

Susan English’s love of writing began organically after seeing some videos her son and his friend made in college about a robot that toured San Francisco giving out love advice as a self-taught therapist (see video section).

While Susan thought the videos were funny, as did her son’s friends, she thought, wouldn’t it be great if people knew the backstory of the robot? Where did it come from? How was it created?  Why doesn’t it have arms or legs?  Does it have a name? Does it have any special skills?  Why did it become a therapist of all things?

With the permission of her son and his friend, The Robota Series was created. New to writing, and not having any true writing courses under her belt, Susan wrote and self-published two short stories about Robota Stephanopoulos.  Robota: The Backstory and Robota Meets Arnold and Agnes.

Susan decided that for her next book she wanted to get to know her audience better, and so she took Robota and the book to meet her audience, the middle grade. Susan interviewed two hundred 8-10 year olds and together they came up with some ideas about what they would like to have happen to Robota in the future.

Since then, Susan has written a new book: The (Not So) Secret Life of Robota Stephanopoulos which she is working on getting formally published. Susan has a Business degree from the University of Maryland and worked for 12 years in corporate America. She continues to take writing courses and lives with her husband and yellow lab Rosie.
